Does ADT Work with Google Home And Amazon Alexa?

It’s no secret ADT has protected families for over 150 years, but you might ask yourself if this celebrated name in residential security is able to offer the modern-day ease of voice activation. You’ll be pleased to hear the answer is yes! ADT works with Google Home and Amazon Alexa, and there’s quite a bit you can control. Discover what’s possible and find tips for adding voice control into your new home security system.

Here’s What Voice Commands Can Do In Your Scottsdale Home

Now that you’re aware you can use your ADT alarm system with Amazon Alexa and Google Home, you’re likely wondering what’s possible. Here are some ideas:

  • Arm and disarm your system
  • Dim smart lights
  • Lock or unlock connected smart locks
  • Change thermostat settings

If you’re busy helping kids or making dinner, and need a simple way to brighten a light or lower the temperature, just speak a command. It’s convenient and lets you manage your system without picking up your phone or using the touchscreen panel.

Manage Your ADT Equipment With These Voice Commands

A quick verbal command is all it takes to control your connected ADT devices. One thing to note, When controlling a specific device, like your front door lock or bedroom light, you must use the name you previously gave the device.

Manage your ADT tools with the following Google Home commands:

  • Hey Google, arm my system stay.
  • Hey Google, arm my system away.
  • Hey Google, lock the (door name).
  • Hey Google, turn off the (light name).
  • Hey Google, turn the heat up by 2 degrees.

Amazon Alexa operates almost the same, but calls for somewhat different commands. Here several examples:

  • Alexa, arm ADT in away mode
  • Alexa, disarm ADT
  • Alexa, turn off the (light name).
  • Alexa, [[lock the (door name)]].
  • Alexa, set the (thermostat name) to 68 degrees.

You can also ask questions. You may want to know if a door is locked or the current temperature in your home. Just speak a command like, “Alexa, what is my thermostat set to?” and you’ll hear an answer.

Is There Anything You Can’t Do With Voice Commands?

Voice activation comes with a few restrictions. To illustrate, you can’t change or configure settings in your ADT smartphone app by saying a command. You’ll also have to supply a PIN when performing certain actions, such as turning off your alarm system or unlocking a door.

How To Establish Voice Activation In Your Scottsdale Home

Establishing voice activation only takes a few steps regardless of the smart speaker you have. You’ll follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home or Amazon Alexa app on your mobile device
